ive gotta say handshaped boards are essentially crap. the sooner things are automated and the shaper is removed from the equation the better. in fact rider branded fully machine made shapes are inevitable. ive worked with many of the best and they (and their finished product) come with hangovers, family problems, fatigue, etc etc. even the best with computer preshapes are still getting around 50:50 hit miss ratio. sorry but handshapes are rubbish.

Good work from RH. The Launceston store at the moment is a nothing more than a place to buy low cut singlets and expensive tracksuit pants. They stock about 5 NSP's and a few soft tops. It's a shame, because there are plenty of surfers up here. The staff know plenty about being trendy but only a handful know anything about the surf.

It'd be good if RH made a move towards selling some handshaped boards too. Tassie has at least three really good shapers - Stranger, Tim Clarke and Brad Peters. Then there are the classic Aussie shapers - Mitchell Rae, Mike Mackie, Alan Byrne, Bourton etc. The younger guys might be able to market their boards better, but guys like the above have years and years of experience over the likes of Hayden and JS. It'd be nice to be able to get their boards into the state too.

No "cognitive bias" here, Leon. I am from San Diego, California & I have been following XXL Wipeouts for a while now (Jaws, Maverick's, Cortez Banks, Shipstern's...). I do not speak from experience, (I am not a big wave surfer) but from all of the video's I have watched; I have come to the conclusion that Shipstern's is the scariest, meanest, mutant wave on planet Earth. Just knowing that ledge is below you, takes so much courage to even commit to make the drop...I would rather get into the Octogon with a top MMA Fighter than surf Shipstern's! The wipeouts look the most punishing, & the holdowns are pretty deep and long according to the surfer's who surf there. My vote (for what it's worth): any XXl wave at Shipstern's.
@Fred Fingle- deep breath bro...exhale...deep breath...

I think they should just show the worst wipeouts and not be rewarded. Theyre all heavy as shit. Besides lets look at it this way. If yours looks the heaviest you get a prize? Thats stupid. Mark Foo's wave didnt seem that bad of a wipeout when you watch it. And he died! RIP Mark
